Rana Siegel Slack (The Gallery) September 13 - October 11 2020
Rana Siegel
Slack (The Gallery)
September 13, 2020 – October 11, 2020.
Material is pleased to present artist Rana Siegel in her solo show: Slack (The Gallery). This exhibition continues Rana’s ongoing interest in choreographed gesture, where Rana comes to know a space through her body and material. The line and anchor are forms she will articulate using simple materials: string and small white tiles. Rana transforms the gallery into an experience of fragility and balance, as she negotiates the parameters of the space while suggesting fleeting possibilities of tangible contemplation, and strategic labor. Her hand is cued into the micro-potential as the overall composition continues regularity and geometric symmetry. The positioning of each piece allows for random moments of movement. Slack (The Gallery) will be the 4th iteration of the Slack series, where Rana uses these materials to respond to a unique space.
Throughout the exhibition, Rana will be engaging with Slack (The Gallery), through the documentation of movement and perspective. Regular posts: images, texts, videos; will be available for anyone to view online. Lights will be left on at night so that people can view the gallery from the street.
There is something there. It is not for us to occupy, but for us to witness.
Rana will direct us through this iteration of Slack, as we witness from the maker, a way of engagement.
