Artist Statement
Having Designs On... A Body of Work meditates on the impulse to decorate—to mark, embellish, and transform space into something inhabited by thought and desire. By importing and superimposing designs conceived within the virtual realm of digital space onto our shared physical world, George Blaha dissolves the boundaries between the imagined and the material, allowing one to permeate the other.
The exhibition invites viewers to linger within this threshold, where digital forms assume physical presence and decoration becomes more than ornament. Pattern emerges as a gesture of projection—an act through which memory, intention, and imagination are inscribed onto the surfaces that surround us. Conceived through CGI processes yet realized in the gallery, Blaha's works present the virtual not as an escape from reality but as its extension: a site where collective imagination takes material form.
Within this convergence of pixels and matter, the gallery becomes a field of inscription, shaped by the enduring human desire to leave traces of ourselves upon the world. Having Designs On...
